Can I install quickbooks pro on an external hard drive?

I need quickboooks pro for a class that I am taking in college. I ordered the program and will install it when it comes, however, I do not want to bog down my laptop with this program. Is it possible to purchase an external drive and install it to that location and access it and run it from the external drive while leaving my hard drive untouched? If so, where should look for the prompt to do this when installing the prgm? Thank you very much for assisting.

You might be able to but I would just install it on your internal hard drive. If certain installation files require to access the Windows system files, you might run into trouble.
